Flashing Speed Sign on Handley
Posted on Apr 29th, 2020

Since the COVID-19 Virus has changed life for all of us, it has been noticed that vehicle drivers have picked up their speed in both directions on Handley. The number of walkers, skateboarders, and pedestrians have increased threefold as folks get out of the house. Many skateboarders ride down Handley which is as dangerous as riding down the sidewalks.  The City of Sherwood is aware of the increased traffic in our neighborhood and working to identify additional solutions to slow this traffic down. In addition, the City has installed a temporary flashing speed sign on Swanstrom as traffic has increased in this location as well.

This will be one of several permanent solutions to address this long-standing issue.  These signs do tend to slow drivers down and capture data about people's driving habits on a particular street.  Locations on Handley are currently being identified and homeowners will be notified when the signs will be installed.

The City will also begin reconfiguring the Handley/Aldridge Terrace intersection into a true pedestrian crossing to allow for foot traffic to cross Handley safely.
